IEEE-USA Rolls Out New Salary Services

IEEE-USA has partnered with Industry Insights, a leader in salary surveys and research, to launch a new and enhanced salary service. We are excited to announce additional products this year. Users will now have a choice of two calculators — one that employs the regression model, and a new calculator that allows you to select individual filters and calculates your compensation directly from the salary survey’s raw data. IEEE-USA has also released five downloadable industry-specific salary reports along with the new 2015 Salary & Benefits, as well as the 2014 and 2013 Reports.

University of New Mexico IEEE Student Branch — New faces

The University of New Mexico’s IEEE Student Branch has a couple of new faces. The new branch president is Craig Robertson. The new Branch faculty advisor is Dr. Jane Leher (Dr. Jane Lehr, UNM Student Branch Faculty Advisor).

The UNM Student Branch is working very hard to revitalize its activities and also to get back its lounge which is now used as temporary storage after the ECE building flooded last Summer.

They are also looking for new branch members. They will be putting together a couple of activities aimed at recruiting. Please check with them if you are interested, simply curious, or would like to help them in any way.

New Mexico Tech Student Branch — Activities outlook

Sunday, September 27th, 2015

On August 27th, the New Mexico Tech IEEE Student Branch held its first meeting of the new school year.

The meeting had the objective of introducing the branch members to the officers and explain their goals for the semester/year. They gave a preliminary slideshow detailing these aims, which include sending members to the ICCE in January and sponsoring teams for a drone competition to be held in the spring. Approximately 30 people were present for the entire meeting, with a couple others popping in for a few minutes.

The New Mexico Celebrates the International Year of Light Event

The New Mexico Celebrates the International Year of Light event will include talks by Nobel Laureate, Dr. Roy Glauber and Leaders in Photonics. The event is scheduled on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Student Union Ballrooms A, B & C. First IEEE Virtual Career and Talent Expo hosted by Region 6 June 2015

Monday, June 8th, 2015

IEEE has announced the first even Virtual Career and Talent Expo to take place in June 2015.

This event is hosted by Region 6 and comprises the following:

Beginning June 1 – 9 the Career and Talent Expo will host professional development
presentations centered around the talent profile to attendees on the virtual platform. Sessions will
have relevant and informative keynote speakers providing important industry, career and
technical guidance to help participants make important decisions.

June 10 – 12 attend the “live” event. Participants can talk with recruiters and company
representatives in their booths. Prospective employers can conduct interviews with candidates
via video and live chat features and schedule next steps. Recruiters will be available 10:00 a.m.
– 2:00 p.m. PDT.

June 13 – 30 participants can select the virtual booth of the employers in which they are
interested, upload their resumes and watch company video presentations about work culture,
benefits and search job opportunities and conduct any follow up from the live days.

Employers have a choice of three (3) Sponsorship Packages and can exhibit in 14 halls themed
with unique career disciplines aligned with the IEEE:

1. A Gold Recruiting Package – Provides classic recruiting with the added benefit of
participants sharing the personal skills talent report to market their personal talents.

2. A Platinum Job Matching Package – Includes skill-based assessments to provide
the alignment of people to jobs and determine success probability.

3. A Titanium Co-Branding and Job Matching Package – Expands on the Job
Matching option and increases the corporation visibility to a higher relationship level.

This event is free to IEEE members and non-members pay a fee of $125.

2015 IEEE Albuquerque Section Awards

On May 11th the Albuquerque Section of the IEEE had the pleasure to present its 2015 awards to three exceptional members of our community. The event took place at the UNM Continuing Education building.

The third award, 2015 Outstanding Young Engineer, was presented to Salvatore Campione, who could not be present at the event. As part of the award Salvatore will give a technical talk to the Section members later this year. His award certificate, and a cash award, will be presented to him at that time. We will post details of the Salvatore’s talk at a later time.

For 2016 we will start the nomination process as early as this fall so we give our Section members more time. Expect the nomination announcement and more award details in the Fall.
