About IEEE

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IEEE, pronounced “Eye-triple-E,” stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The association is chartered under this name and it is the full legal name. To learn more about the association’s name, for more information please read the History of IEEE.

About IEEE Arrowhead Section

The Arrowhead Section was formed April 23, 1947 and is a geographically large section covering twelve northern Minnesota counties, four northern Wisconsin counties and two counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are two Student Chapters associated with the Arrowhead Section. Iron Range Engineering (IRE) is based at Mesabi Range Community College in Virginia, MN and is an extension program of Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN, and a chapter at the University of Minnesota Duluth Campus. There are also two affinity groups: Young Professionals Group (formerly G.O.L.D. approved December 2005), and a Women In Engineering Group (approved April 20, 2018).
