IEEE AP/MTT Atlanta Chapter Presents: Time-Varying Electromagnetic Devices

February 19 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Professor Yuanxun Ethan Wang, UCLA: I will introduce multiple initiatives supported by NSF and DARPA on the development of a new class of electromagnetic devices that operate in a time-varying fashion. These time-varying devices include transmission lines, filters, and antennas, and may be constructed on semiconductor or electromechanical platforms. Their time-dependent properties are induced through parametric modulation or switching modes. Through addition of the new time dimension, several fundamental limits of passives can be lifted.  Applications including full-duplex radios, tunable RF front-ends, and broadband VLF transmitters may be developed with this novel device concept.
