IEEE Comm Society, Atlanta – More Bandwidth, Please

October 24 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

The telecommunications industry has seen an overwhelming amount of change in the last 25 years as the internet has become a dominant part of our everyday lives redefining how we work, play, shop, communicate, exercise, travel, educate, and so much more.  Who would have thought in 1998 when Nielsen first proposed his Law of Internet bandwidth growth at 50% per year, we would still be closely tracking that number 20 years later, yet here we stand.  Further, growing networks to meet capacity demands with 50% CAGRs while not simultaneously exploding costs creates an unbelievable challenge for a business.  This presentation will survey the current state of the cable industry and its challenge to continue to economically meet the insatiable demand for bandwidth.  Topics will include the historical evolution to current HFC architectures, cost effective options to continue to grow network capacity, and likely roadmaps to evolve to next generation architectures.
