IEEE PES Atlanta: “Modern Grid Energy Resources in a Decentralized Energy Future & CHP Generation”

May 21 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Co-sponsored by: Hindle Power, Inc.

This tutorial will introduce the landscape of planning  and operations of modern grid energy resources in a decentralized energy future.  The types of distributed energy resources and their integration into the electric power grid will be presented.  Considerations of the Transmission-Distribution (T&D)  interface of distributed energy resources will be shared from both a planning and operations perspective.

The tutorial will also provide an overview of combined heat and power (CHP) fundamentals, application, and feasibility.  CHP (or cogen) plant major components and systems will be reviewed and the various applications of CHP plants will be discussed.  The methodology used to determine CHP plant feasibility will be presented in an in-depth case study for a typical industrial manufacturing facility.

Speaker(s): Tom Jones, P.E., Dwayne Walker, P.E.
