Inverter-Based Resources: Hold On!

City: Boise

Co-sponsored by: John Stubban The interconnected power system in the U.S. has experienced the addition of increasing amounts of inverter-based generation resources over the past several years.  In particular, a large amount of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants have been connected directly to the transmission system, including some in Idaho Power’s area.  Two recent power system disturbances in the western U.S. resulted in unexpected loss of hundreds of megawatts of utility-scale solar PV generation, which caught the attention of the North American Reliability Corporation (NERC).  This presentation will cover these solar PV generation-loss events, NERC’s findings and recommendations, take-aways we should keep in mind at Idaho Power, as well as some inverter basics and trends.   Speaker(s): Trevor Schultz, Location: Bldg: CHQ Auditorium Idaho Power 1221 W.
