Ms. Autumn Perkins, Project Coordinator

Originally from South Florida, Autumn Perkins has lived in Columbia, SC for 15 years- coming to the Palmetto state as an archaeology intern, and then deciding to stay for graduate school. She earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2004 and is nearing the completion of her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. She has nine years of teaching experience in secondary education and three years of experience working with children on the Autism spectrum. She works in curriculum development for Sustainable Carolina at the University of South Carolina where she has also helped instruct college courses on environmental studies and sustainability. She is currently the Project and Curriculum Coordinator for the new South Carolina Science Academy- which is slated to open in August of 2014. Her research interests include project-based instruction, critical multicultural education and culturally relevant pedagogy specifically within STEM content areas. She loves to travel, read, and make believe she is a foodie. She lives in Columbia with her husband, three children and various rescue pets- including an African Sulcata Tortoise!
