Section Chair (AdCom,ExCom,E,N):

  • Knows about: IEEE Bylaws; IEEE Policies; MGA Operations Manual.
  • Presides over meetings.
  • Works with ExCom, Committees, Chapters, and Affinity Group Chairs to support activities.
  • Represents Section at Region meetings.
  • Is a signer on bank account.


Section Vice Chair (AdCom,ExCom,E,N):

  • Presides over meetings in absence of Chair.
  • Is familiar with the policies relating to the activity of the Section and sub-units, including IEEE Bylaws, IEEE Policies, MGA Operations Manual.
  • Assumes additional authority or activity as designated by Chair.


Section Secretary (AdCom,ExCom,E,N):

  • Records minutes of ExCom and other Section meetings.
  • Handles correspondence.
  • Distributes meeting notices.
  • Maintains Section records
  • Submits officer and meeting reporting, including officer changes during the year, to IEEE Operations Center.


Section Treasurer (AdCom,ExCom,E,N):

  • Prepares the annual budget.
  • Records all financial activity.
  • Reconciles bank statements/activity.
  • Reports status of unit’s finances to the Section ExCom on a regular basis.
  • Prepares and submits Annual Financial Report (L-50).
  • Is a signer on bank account.


Section Student Representatives (AdCom,Excom,A,N):

  • Represent their respective Student Branches in Columbia Section meetings and decisions.
  • Sends emails & calendar updates regarding the Student Branches to the Columbia Section.
  • Responds to requests from persons outside IEEE, forwarding to or informing appropriate Columbia Section volunteers as required, including their Student Branch Counselors.


IEEE South Carolina Council Representative (AdCom,Excom,A,N):

  • Represents the Columbia Section’s decisions in meetings and discussions of the IEEE South Carolina Council.
  • Sends emails & calendar updates regarding the SC Council to the Columbia Section via the Section Secretary.
  • Responds to Council requests, forwarding to or informing appropriate Columbia Section volunteers as required, reporting all activities to the Columbia Section’s Administrative Committee.


Webmaster (AdCom,A,N):

  • Sends Columbia Section weekly email & calendar updates.
  • Posts Columbia website pages, advertisements, job notices, etc. to website.
  • Responds to Web requests from groups outside IEEE, forwarding to appropriate Columbia Section volunteer as required


Past Section Chair (AdCom,C):

  • Provides guidance, recommendations.


Awards and Recognition (AdCom,A,N):

  • Assists with Section Award & Recognition programs.


Membership Development Chair and Committee (AdCom,A,N):

  • Welcome new Section Members.
  • Coordinate membership exhibits for local meetings and conferences, job fairs, etc.
  • Coordinate Membership Upgrade Events.
  • Identify membership concerns and opportunities.


Professional Activities (PACE) Chair (AdCom,A,N):

  • PACE Chair Description
  • Organizes a Region 3 Student Branch Leadership Training Workshop as prescribed by new leadership.
  • Organizes a Columbia Section Career Fair/Professional Development as prescribed by members and in cooperation with members, corporate HR Divisions, and universities.

Industry Liaison (AdCom,A,N):

  • Help the Section to strengthen partnerships between the Columbia Section and industry for mentorship, careers, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Represent industry at the IEEE Columbia Section Executive Committee meetings.
  • Present monthly activity reports to the IEEE Columbia Section.

University Liaison (AdCom,A,N):

  • Strengthens partnership between student members, Student Branches, and Society Branch Chapters in the Columbia Section.
  • Provides support and resources for success of student members and student branches.
  • Encourages student members to involve themselves in various IEEE activities including technical and professional development.
  • Represent colleges/universities at the IEEE Columbia Section Executive Committee meetings.
  • Present monthly activity reports to the IEEE Columbia Section


Government Liaison (AdCom,A,N):

  • Strengthens partnership between the Section and governments at all levels in the Columbia Section.
  • Provides support and resources for success of the partnership.
  • Encourages government members to involve themselves in various IEEE activities including technical and professional development.
  • Represent governments at the IEEE Columbia Section Executive Committee meetings.
  • Present monthly activity reports to the IEEE Columbia Section.


Women In Engineering Chapter (AdCom,A,N)

Officers: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer

  • Work with members to ensure each has a mentor and has setup his/her myIEEE Profile.
  • Work with members to ensure each is successfully making IEEE Columbia his/her Professional Home.
  • Help the Section to strengthen partnerships between the Columbia Section and industry for mentorship, careers, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and innovation
  • Invite members to present at Section meetings.
  • Represent the Chapter at the IEEE Columbia Section Executive Committee meetings.
  • Represent the Chapter at at least one IEEE conference each year, as determined by the group.
  • Present monthly activity reports to the IEEE Columbia Section.
