Date: Monday, September 9, 2019  6: 15PM

Speaker:    Rick Tett, Founder/CEO. HoboLoco Inc

Topic:     Lessons Learned and Going Forward for HoboLoco

Program Description:   After watching his nephew glide around on a hoverboard, Rick Tett became inspired. Fast forward a few months, and he had an idea. What if a hoverboard’s control scheme could be combined with a virtual reality headset?  Come to the IEEE Consultants September Meeting and hear more about Rick’s work to bring this idea to the market.

Over the past 7+ years. Rick Tett has helped build value as a member of the SkyKick engineering team delivering high quality, scalable cloud-based products used worldwide. Tett was fortunate to join the 3 amazing founders in the first year. Since that time, SkyKick has grown into a major player in the Office 365 and Microsoft Partner Network ecosphere.

In late 2017, as a member of the exhibits committee at Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Tett was interested in bringing virtual reality to the science museum and, as he educated himself, he became aware of the limitations of virtual reality locomotion. His mind started churning which resulted in the creation of a new solution for VR locomotion and on April 30, 2019, he received a patent for it. He’s created a foot-operated controller which not only works with VR headsets, but also with all kinds of video games – especially those that work from the first-person perspective. He is most excited that it enables game play by those for whom arm and hand limitations inhibit the use of traditional controllers. He is seeking to work with companies and organizations that provide adaptive gaming equipment to veterans and others.

He is currently working toward a Masters in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the the University of Texas at Dallas [Naveen Jindahl School of Business]. He loves to sing and play tennis when I can find the time.

His background is as a software professional who loves a challenge and an opportunity to delight clients and users. He has built, managed, and led development teams; and, yet still loves to design and write code. His experience includes implementation of web applications, web services, a real-time restaurant food order scheduler, map generation, speech recognition, communications protocols, messaging systems, and computer aided design. He is proud to deliver highly reliable solutions to delighted customers on-time.
