When I say “tech corridor”, what area or city do you think of? Answers that I’ve heard are “Silicon Valley”, “Austin”, …

I think the answer should be “Dallas” or “DFW” and that IEEE Dallas can help make this vision a reality.

How? Two words – collaboration, innovation.

In the Dallas area, we have the elements to make this happen; a favorable low cost business climate, many high tech businesses, a large engineering/professional talent pool (IEEE Dallas Section alone has ~4,500 members) and a good number of Colleges Universities.

The IEEE Dallas Section provides a common connection between most of these elements, and thus has an opportunity to bring them together in innovative ways not available to other organizations. Together, our opportunities will expand dramatically as we transition to becoming THE tech corridor.

Here’s what we’ve done in the Dallas Section so far:
1) We’ve expanded our core team to to better support IEEE members and to identify and facilitate collaboration opportunities.
2) We’ve formed a new “Dallas Innovation Synergy” group to provide IEEE members the opportunity to learn about and share techniques to promote innovation.
3) We’ve held a number of meetings with student sections and identified common objectives and collaboration opportunities.
4) We’ve met and identified collaboration opportunities with two community organizations with the goal of bringing engineering and science concepts and practical “hands-on” experience into the classroom.
5) We’ve begun establishing contacts with companies in the Dallas area with the goal of identifying common objectives and collaboration opportunities.

I’ll be following up with additional notes as we progress through the year. If you have any questions, comments or wish to volunteer for or propose an activity, don’t hesitate to contact me at greg.breiland@ieee.org.
