New ENANO EiC JW Kim Appointed

Saturday, February 6th, 2016

J-W KIMAfter two years of great efforts, the founding Editor-in-Chief of ENANO, Wolfgang Porod (Univ. Notre Dame, USA), has passed this endeavor to Prof. Jin-Woo Kim (University of Arkansas, USA). Prof. Kim has been appointed to succeed Porod as the new EiC of ENANO. Prof. Kim is Director of the Bio/Nano Technology Laboratory at the  Institute for Nanoscience & Engineering, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas USA.

Dr. Kim’s primary research focus is in the area of Bio/Nano Technology, i.e., biologically inspired nanotechnology, which spans interdisciplinary fields of biological engineering, biomedical engineering, biology, chemistry, and nanotechnology. Learning from biological systems in nature, his research aims to develop more effective and efficient routes to “panoscale” (i.e., ‘any’ scale) system integration of multifunctional hierarchical structures for biomimetic advanced materials and devices. To realize the goal, his research specifically focuses on (1) micro and nanoscale bio-abio interfacing technology to realize the toolboxes of nanoscale (as well as microscale) building blocks (namely “nano-toolboxes”) for functional, reliable, and scalable bio-hybrid system assembly and (2) programmable self-assembly technology to construct more complicated and controlled multifunctional structures with “customized” shapes and functions for specific applications, including biological and biomedical applications, such as biosensing, bio-security, medical therapeutics and diagnostics (theranostics), and drug delivery, and other applications, including photovoltaics, optoelectronics, and nanophotonics to name a few. The novel programmable self-assembly technology powered by the nano/micro-toolboxes has high promise to enable us to achieve “programmable and customizable” integrations of highly functional bio-hybrid systems in desired patterns and geometries beyond the inherent limitations of existing technologies, further driving innovations in novel hybrid fused technologies, which are clearly on rise.

Prof. Kim has played a leadership role in the NTC’s conferences: Conference steering committee, IEEE International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (IEEE-NANOMED) (2009 – present);
Conference general chair for the 9th IEEE-NANOMED 2015; Conference general co-chair for the 5th IEEE-NANOMED 2011; Conference program chair for the 4th IEEE-NANOMED 2010; Publication Chair for the 8th
IEEE-NANOMED 2014; Publicity co-chair for 13th IEEE International Conference on Nanotechnology (IEEE-NANO 2013); Publication committee chair for 6th IEEE-NANOMED 2012; Invited sessions committee for IEEE Nanotechnology Materials and Devices Conference 2012 (IEEE-NMDC 2012); Technical program committee for 3rd Annual IEEE International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems (IEEE-NEMS 2008); and Conference organizing committee as a workshop co-chair for 2nd Annual IEEE-NEMS 2007.

ENANO002

– Announcing a new IEEE Open Access Journal –

IEEE Nanotechnology Express (ENANO)

The IEEE NANOTECHNOLOGY EXPRESS (ENANO) publishes novel and important results in engineering at the nanoscale. ENANO is dedicated to the rapid publication of Research Letters, published as a web-only, fully open-access (OA) topical journal on topics of great current interest. It focuses on nanoscale materials, devices, systems, and applications, and on their underlying science. ENANO is an interdisciplinary archival journal that covers all areas of nanotechnology, and will be refereed to the archival standards used by other IEEE transactions-level journals.

ENANO is a publication of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council. Accepted papers are published on the web in IEEE Xplore as soon as they are submitted in final form. Web-published papers have a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), and are fully citable and downloadable. Fast publication is achieved through ENANO’s entirely electronic submission and review process. ENANO accepts graphical abstracts in order to provide enhanced visibility of published papers.

Paper submission and review are through Manuscript Central (now known as Scholar One) at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/enano. Instructions for authors are provided on-line at that site.
