About the tutorial

NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace provides several requirements for conditions of maintenance under the Scope 90.2, Electrical Safety Program requirements 110.1(C), Arc-Flash Risk Assessment 130.5(B)(2), and Energized Work in Normal Operating Conditions 130.2(A)(4) as well as Chapter 2 Safety Related Maintenance Requirements. Much of the current industry wide electrical safety discussions and training focuses only on Safety-Related Work Practices of NFPA 70E Chapter 1 and still overlook the maintenance requirements that are iterated repeatedly in the same chapter, as referenced.

Many electrical professionals are unaware of available electrical maintenance references and particularly NFPA 70B Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance. 70B could aid an organization in meeting the requirements of 70E as well as safely maximizing the useful life of electrical equipment. This tutorial will provide a review of the organization and content of NFPA 70B with sufficient eye-opening detail to challenge even the more advanced maintenance programs. The instructors will also present the direction the technical committee is undertaking to improve the standard.
