FUTURE OF ROBOTICS IN FINLAND SEMINAR 2014

The 2nd Future of Robotics in Finland Seminar was successfully held on 28.11.2014 at Aalto University, organized by the IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of the Control System Society, Robotics and Automation Society and Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society. After drawing both academic and industrial interests in the first seminar last year, this year the main theme was on national robotics roadmap, which attracted near 100 registration (and over 60 participants) from 41 organizations, including 23 companies and key players such as TEKES, Suomen Robotiikkayhdistys ry, FIMA, VTT etc..

The morning session focused on keynote talks, by Olli Venta of VTT, Juhani Lempiäinen of Deltatron Oy, Outi Töytäri of THL, Juha Backman of MTT and Iina Aaltonen of VTT. During the lunch break, the seminar had an interactive session for demonstrations, exhibition and posters from industry and academia. The seminar then continued in the afternoon, where the participants were grouped in specific topics on manufacturing robots, autonomous machines, health and well-being robots, agriculture robots, to identify the opportunities and the focus areas of the national robotics roadmap. The group work results were summarized in the end of the seminar.

The standing officers of IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of the Control System Society, Robotics and Automation Society and Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society organizing the event are Ville Kyrki, chair, Lasse Eriksson, vice chair, Quan Zhou, secretary, and Tapio Pahikkala, treasurer.
