Congratulations to Region 5 Award Winners

Congratulations to all outstanding IEEE individuals and programs across the twenty six R5 Sections! The award will be presented at the 2018 IEEE Region 5 Annual Conference during the Awards Banquet April 7, 2018. The Central Texas Section will host the Annual Conference.  It will take place on April 6th – 8th, 2018 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center in Austin, TX. Early registration rates are available through March 12.

IEEE Houston Section won R5 Outstanding Large Section >500. The Houston Section has been in existence for more than 80 years serving the greater metro Houston Area. This section serves more than 4,000 higher grade members and over 300 student members living and working throughout the greater Metro Houston area. The Section provides planning and funding support to assure Chapters have vibrant programs to support members’ careers and meet the IEEE mission of Advancing Technology for Humanity.

IEEE TAMU won R5 Outstanding Large Student Branch >50. This chapter of the IEEE is very active with activities ranging from socials to competitions to presentations from corporations. This year IEEE TAMU organized two major brand new events -the IEEE Career fair and TAMUmake.

In IEEE Career Fair, 17 companies attended the event ranging from power, to oil, to tech companies as well as over 200 student attendees came to the event. This was the first Electrical Engineering Career Fair held at A&M and we will continue to provide this to EE’s from now on.

 

In TAMUmake, 24 hours full scale hardware hackathon was held where teams of students had access to thousands of dollars worth of hardware to create a project to present to our industry sponsors and professors. Over 90 students attend with 18 teams.

Sira P. Rao is one of the four awardees for IEEE Region 5 Outstanding Individual Achievement Award for his achievements in 2017. He is currently a Senior Engineer in Schlumberger. He has a track record of outstanding contributions to the product development and process improvement in the Oil and Gas, and Semiconductor Industries.
