IEEE devDay 2018

Forbes top 10 Workplace Trends You’ll See In 2018, #1 prediction is that companies will continue to promote their workspaces and design them to facilitate interpersonal relationships between employees.  IEEE devDay is designed to engage and assist attendees to tackle this new workplace and assist in the professional development skills gap.

This day-long conference focuses on developing those skills gaps and learning from those HR Managers, Recruiters, and Hiring Managers. Many of which will be at this event looking for talented employees to fulfill open internships and job positions. 

IEEE devDay seeks to fix that by hosting an engaging and useful professional development event for those who are at a variety of points in their professional careers.

RECENT UPDATES: Breakfast will be sponsored in part by Dunkin’ Donuts, the afternoon presentations will include a pdh presentation that will qualify for some amount of pdh time (to be announced when the presentation is finalized), the after-conference happy hour will be hosted at Brick House Tavern & Tap, and John Figary, Global Account Manger for Eaton, will be our keynote speaker. This is not an event to miss. TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

9AM: Light Pastries/Coffee — Early morning networking and registration

9:30AM: Event Welcome — Event welcome message from IEEE Houston

10AM: Group Panel Session — Topic will relate to what our engineering panel participants wish they had done as a young engineer

11AM (A): YP Breakout Session — Topic will relate to young professional interests including maintaining a work-life-living balance, importance of staying engaged with your community post-graduation, secrets for sucess 

11AM (B): Student Breakout Session — Topic will relate to student interests including skills to gain now while you’re in school, the importance of a network, what steps you can take now to prepare for future sucess

Noon: Lunch and Keynote Presentation — Topic will relate to tech trends, electrical engineering trends, and what your future as an engineer may look like

1pm: Presentation — Topic will relate to possible career paths for an engineer to take, including how to transition into management

2pm (A): Resume Session — Attendees will have a chance to speak with company representatives who hire engineers and receive resume critiques

2pm (B): Presentation — Topic will be of interest to those who are currently employed or who are not actively job hunting

3pm Eaton Experience Center Tour — Attendees will get a private tour of Eaton’s state of the art demo facilities that include full sized switch gear set up and to-scale refining areas

4pm Post-Conference Networking — Attendees are invited to network post-conference at a local hang-out (location tbd)

Please note that event coordinators reserve the right to change topics as need be.  This schedule represents content that we want to be covered.  Event coordinators would like to emphasize that they do have students’ and young professionals’ interests in mind when scheduling speakers and determining topics.
