IEEE 2019 STEPing Forward Event

IEEE STEP (Student Transition and Elevation Partnership) is an initiative developed by IEEE Young Professionals to provide a dynamic platform for facilitating the transition from student member to working as young professional by introducing the opportunities and benefits of IEEE membership during the onset of a STEM career.

On May 4th, 2019, the IEEE Houston Young Professionals (HOU YP) hosted the STEPing Forward Event to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2019 graduates.

The event began with a tour of Houston’s very own hidden engineering marvel, the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern!

On this tour, the group learned about the history and architecture of the cistern space, and even had the opportunity to experience firsthand the unique sound and optical effects that saved this engineering marvel from demolition!

Immediately following the tour, the group headed over to La Grange for the Networking Celebration! Under the clear blue skies and over a hearty assortment of appetizers, graduates and young professionals casually networked and learned about the benefits of becoming a professional member after graduation.

As the evening sunset, all attendees left with a surprise IEEE gift, some career lessons and even a few business cards.
