IEEE HOU Sec: David Crockett Middle School 8th Grade Career Day

On Friday, February 9, 2018 a small group of IEEE HOU Sec. members and other community volunteers participated in the David Crockett Middle School 11th Annual 8th Grade Career Day. This year’s theme was “Building Future Leaders.”  Experience shows that exposure to a wide variety of careers, prior to high school, is a tremendous asset to students when selecting high school courses or planning for their future. The program was designed to help students to identify future careers and engage volunteers to share their preparation, challenges, and things that most excited them about their careers.

First time Career Day participant and recent IEEE TryEngineering Profiler Christopher Sanderson shared his journey to more than 125 students and faculty members. “I was honored to share my journey and meet tomorrow’s future leaders.  I only hope that I was able to inspire some future engineers, scientists and technologists.” Christopher, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, shared some great experiences of his career in the electrical industry for the past 25 years.

IEEE has a number of free outreach programs available to help students and faculty members in understanding and teaching STEM classes.
