On Wednesday, March 6, 2019 the IEEE Houston Section facilitate a What Are Standards? seminar at Texas Southern University. Christopher Sanderson, IEEE Houston Section Vice-Chair and IEEE Region 5 South Chair facilitated the seminar to over 35 student attendees many of which are not IEEE members.
Many were surprise to learn about the history of standards and the number of IEEE standards around the world in a number of various industries.

Part of the high interest from attendees, is having a more informed understanding of how standards may affect their field of work, study, or life. They quickly understand the career advantages they could have over fellow colleagues with a good understanding of standards. “Today’s job market is more competitive than ever. I believe having a strong understanding of how standards affect your field of work and study will allow you to be more competitive”.
