At the beginning of April, several Houston Section and local Student Branch representatives attended the Region 5 Business Meeting.  These representatives witnessed/participated in various student competitions, including an ethics competition and a circuit design competition, and attended IEEE-enrichment trainings hosted by regional and national leadership.

Students from the University of Houston, University of Houston Downtown, Lamar University, and Texas A&M Galveston IEEE Student Branches or affiliate groups all joined the Houston Section in Lafayette, Louisiana for this meeting.

Houston Section volunteers Freddie Wong, Christopher Sanderson, and Moriah Hargrove Anders, as well as Rice University’s IEEE Student Branch, each accepted their regional awards at this business meeting. The Houston Section ExCom is very proud of its member achievements for 2018 and looks forward to rolling this momentum into 2019 initiatives.

IEEEmadC started as an IEEE student branch project by Dr. Josip Balen from Osijek in Croatia, efforts, IEEEmadC (Mobile Applications Development Contest), a 6-8 months competition initially focused to inspire student members in Europe, Middle East, and Africa to develop mobile applications escalated into a globally recognized competition very soon. Having around 150 participants in 2014 and more than 250 in 2015 and 2016, it provides IEEE student members a new interesting activity and a chance to develop something which achieves IEEE mission and make its member lives and times more valuable.

IEEEmadC project has positively impacted many people all around the world so far and most of our participants have continued to work in the field of mobile application development, developed new mobile applications and shared the knowledge with other students. We expect that IEEEmadC contest and community and will grow and become one of the largest in the world and one of the major online places for the education in a field of mobile applications development.

IEEE Center for Leadership Excellence

The IEEE Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE) is an online training platform for IEEE volunteers and IEEE members to learn more about professional development topics, IEEE structure and benefits, conference planning techniques, and the VoLT program.
