Build a Raspberry Pi Weather Station

December 15, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Co-sponsored by: PACE; JRACS; AESS

Build your own Raspberry Pi weather station! Will have 10 kits to take home; bringing a buddy to assemble and program each weather station is encouraged. The kits are worth $30.00 each and consist of a RPi Zero Wireless, a small breadboard and jumpers, 8 GB SDCard, and Bosch BME280 weather sensor.

There is no charge for the activity as it is a jointly hosted event by PACE, JRACS, AESS, and Computer societies. I welcome additional societies joining — EMC, TMC, and TMC; join for an easy L31 and fun meeting for your members

We will power and program the Pis using Windows 7 or 10, Mac Mavericks (2013 or newer), or Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (2014 or newer) Linux laptops via their USB for power (no goofy security or device driver issue) and laptops and Pis surfing my Wi-Fi router. I ask all attendees bring a laptop and a USB cable with micro USB (Android phone or Amazon Kindle) connection. I will have DVDs to load and run the Raspberry Pi desktop OS inside Virtualbox VMs. Attendees are encouraged to preload their laptops with VirtualBox v5.20 or newer before attending; they’ll need 8 GB free space for hosting the Pi Desktop, which runs on open source Raspian.
