Free Raspberry Pi Weather Station Workshop

January 26, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Come make some Pi on a Saturday afternoon!  Assemble a Raspberry Pi Zero W  connected to a Bosch BME280 Temperature, Humidity, and Barometric Pressure sensor, enabling you to host a www.wunderground.com weather site on your home’s WiFi network.

We will have 10 kits to take home.  Bringing a buddy to assemble and program each weather station is encouraged.  The kits are worth $30.00 each, consisting of a RasPi Zero W, a small breadboard and jumpers, 8 GB SDCard, and Bosch BME280 I2C chip.

We will power and program the RasPis using Windows 7 or 10, Mac Mavericks (2013 or newer), or Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (2014 or newer) Linux laptops via their USB for power.  We’ll connect to the RasPi Zero W proper via ssh over WiFi network supplied by a WiFi router.

All attendees therefore need to bring a laptop with an aforementioned OS, at least 10 GB free space, and a USB cable with micro USB (Android phone or Amazon Kindle) connection.  DVDs and USB Drives will be available to load and run the Raspberry Pi desktop OS inside Virtualbox VMs.  Attendees are asked to load their laptops with VirtualBox v6.0 or newer from www.virtualbox.org before attending.

We’ll meet at the Eleanor E Murphy Branch Library from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Jaunary 26, 2019.  The library’s address is 7910 Charlotte Drive, Huntsville, AL 35802.  We look forward to seeing you there!
