IEEE EMC Technical Meeting

May 17, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Co-sponsored by: Doug Freeman – Rohde & Schwarz

The Huntsville Chapter of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society invites you to attend a Technical Meeting on May 17, 2018 featuring a talk given by Mr. Paul Denisowski of Rohde & Schwarz.  The program will begin at 5:30 pm with Doug Freeman of Rohde & Schwarz sponsoring a free catered meal.  Mr. Denisowski’s technical presentation will begin at approximately 6:20 pm after some short chapter status updates.

Synopsis:

Broadband amplifiers are widely used in radiated immunity testing in order to create sufficient field strengths to meet testing and regulatory requirements over a wide range of frequencies.  Traditional broadband amplifiers suffer from a number of limitations with regards to output power, VSWR tolerance, and their suitability for amplifying non-CW type signals.  This presentation will discuss recent advancements in the area of broadband amplifiers, in particular the development of amplifiers with a user-adjustable conduction angle (amplifier class).  A general overview of amplifier class of operation (e.g. Class A vs Class AB) will be followed by an examination of the effect of conduction angle on various types of signals and how this relates to EMC testing.  Furthermore, the optimization of output power and VSWR tolerance as a function of conduction angle will also be addressed.  Lastly, real-world examples showing the impact of amplifier class of operation and the use of predistorion on different signal types will be presented, along with practical suggestions about how these can improve efficiency and flexibility in radiated immunity testing.

The meeting will be held at ADTRAN in the East Tower, 2nd floor, FountainView Conference Room. The directions are included below (follow the Blue line on the map).

The meal and presentation are open to anyone interested in EMC: IEEE membership is not required to attend. Seating is limited to the first 75 people registered. Please RSVP/Register below.
