IEEE EMC Technical Meeting

October 25, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Co-sponsored by: Ed Davis/Bruce Hardy – Ophir/Sunforce

The Huntsville Chapter of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society invites you to attend a Technical Meeting on October 25, 2018 featuring a talk given by Mr. David Cavanaugh of Benchmark Electronics.  The program will begin at 5:30 pm with Bruce Hardy of Ophir/Sunforce sponsoring a free catered meal.  Mr. Cavanaugh’s technical presentation will begin at approximately 6:20 pm after some short chapter status updates.

Synopsis:

Biological macro-molecules such as Proteins and DNA are critical to the function of the cell and therefore of human, animal and plant life. In the last decade or so many questions/concerns have been raised as to the effect of Rf radiation on these biopolymers. An important class of proteins (Tubulins) that form the cellular cytoskeleton has been shown to respond EM radiation. Proteins have been shown to interact with other frequencies of EM radiation in the Terahertz, IR and Visible light regions of the EM spectrum. Terahertz/sub-terahertz interactions may be important to very specific, long range protein attractions associated with specific functions and biochemical pathways. It has been shown that exposure to Near Intra-red frequencies promote the reduction of inflammation and accelerate the healing of wounds and certain soft tissue damage. Some researchers (Dr. Popp) have documented emissions light from living organisms at certain frequencies. Over the last 15-20 years there have emerged certain amino-acid scales/indices (EIIP, Hydrophobicity) and DSP methods for the analysis of proteins that related to protein structure, function, interactions. These DSP methods recover specific spectral frequencies related to these properties and in many cases the frequencies have a linear relationship to EM radiation and these methods can now begin to help us to address the impact of Rf radiation on biomolecules. Based upon these relationships, there exists a whole new world of possible biosensors based upon the interaction/emission of the human body with electric fields, magnetic field and EM radiation.

The meeting will be held at ADTRAN in the East Tower, 2nd Floor, IslandView Conference Room. The directions are included below (follow the Blue line on the map).
