Educational trip to Komotini Power Plant
Our first activity for the new academic year was an educational trip to a local power plant station. We visited the power plant at Komotini, a town near Xanthi and the capital of Rodopi Prefecture. It is a Natural Gas fired station, manufactured in a focal point of the gas pipeline and it also has the capability to burn petroleum as an alternative fuel.
The unit of Komotini has a total installed power of approximately 485000KW and consists of two gas turbines with their generators with power 165100KW and efficiency 35.7%, two heat recovery boilers and a steam turbine with its generator.
During our visit we had the opportunity to be informed from the personnel about the operating mode of the power plant, the parts of which it consists and the occurring problems.
