Joint IEEE IAS/PELS NUS Student Branch Chapter hosts PLECS Workshop

The Joint IEEE Industry Applications Society/Power Electronics Society (IAS/PELS) Student Branch Chapter at the National University of Singapore (NUS) hosted Plexim GmbH, for a hands-on training event on 9th November 2017. Plexim is a global leader in simulation software, PLECS, for power electronic systems. Mr. Min Luo, Field Application Engineer at Plexim GmbH, Zurich and Mr. Olivier Wu, Managing Director of INFOMATIC Pte Ltd, Singapore has conducted the hands-on training. During the day-long workshop attendees have been introduced to PLECS simulation platform, an autonomous software package for time-domain simulation of power electronic systems and RT Box, a state of the art real-time simulator for power electronics.

During the morning session, attendees have learned the modeling techniques for simulation of power electronics converters including thermal design aspects using PLECS.  In the afternoon session, Mr. Min Luo has demonstrated the versatile capabilities of RT Box to the attendees, which can be used for both real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and rapid control prototyping.

Sixteen participants attended this day-long workshop, all of whom provided positive feedback, noting how the PLECS simulation platform and RT Box can be used to speed up the power electronic converter development by reducing design time. The hands-on training has provided many insightful tips and techniques to the attendees. In addition to the technical aspects, the workshop has offered an opportunity for attendees to connect with the developers of PLECS.

The Student Branch Chapter plans to organize similar events on a regular basis.
