IEEE IAS DA-IICT Student Branch Chapter organized a Webinar Screening session on 10th October 2018. IEEE IAS conducts webinar series on interesting emerging topics all throughout the year which are available to all IAS members for free. It is available to other students for a fee of $10-20. To ensure that all the students can avail to these resourceful webinars, IEEE IAS DA-IICT organized this short one-hour session where one of the top webinars was screened for students, completely free of cost.
Attended by 50-60 enthusiastic students from various batches, the session started with Ms.Neelanshi Varia, Chairperson of IEEE IAS DA-IICT Student Branch Chapter welcoming all the participants and giving a short overview.
A very interesting webinar was screened on the topic ‘How To Improve Your Social Life – Social Media and Your Career’. Talking about the correlation between social life and career, it brought to light many points that left all the attendees wondering. Explaining the importance of networking, the webinar also urged everyone to maintain their professional relations.
Social media could prove to be a wonderful opportunity if used rightly. Being extremely insightful, the webinar talked about the importance of doing the right networking for one’s career. Physical networking is not the only way, contacts could be maintained through social media also, which would be extremely useful for one’s professional careers.
After the first screening, one more webinar was screened with the topic: ‘How to perform for and conduct professional interviews’. The webinar gave tips on giving smart impactful interviews. It talked about one’s body language and personality and other important details students generally miss while preparing for interviews. Proving to be extremely enlightening, the webinar also talked about taking professional interviews. This ensured that all the attendees became aware of the mindsets of the interviewers. The students, many of whom will be appearing for interviews in the next one or two years found the webinar extremely useful and informative.
Followed by the screening all the students were guided into a group discussion that turned out to be very fruitful. Running for almost 40 minutes, the discussion brought up a lot of different ideas and insights. The students were extremely involved and voiced their opinions very strongly about the topic. Discussing the positives and negatives of networking and social media, there was also a discussion on one other webinar.
The art of giving and conducting professional interviews was discussed. Talking about one’s body language and personality and other important details students generally miss while preparing for interviews, the attendees gave tips to each other. The students, many of whom will be appearing for interviews in the next one or two years found the discussion to be extremely useful and informative.
Many of the attendees appreciated the session requesting more such screenings in the future. The session thus came to a successful end.
