Machine Learning Session for UG Students IV-V

Session 4 and Session 5: Mathematical discussions

IEEE MI-SIG in association with IEEE IAS DAIICT Student Branch Chapter also conducted in between a few discussion sessions on linear regression, logistic regression, support vector machines, basics of natural language processing and Naive Naive Bayes Classifier. The sessions were held on 25th September 2018 and 23rd October 2018. These topics were covered in a span of two sessions. The students were first asked to come up and explain whatever they knew about the topic on the whiteboard. Following this, the mentors came up one by one on the whiteboard and explained the concepts in great detail. They taught the students all the heavy mathematics that was involved in it.

The students found mathematical concepts really confusing and slightly tough. The explanation by seniors was so insightful that even after reading a lot of resources, most of the students were unaware of various mathematical reasonings. This so happened because the seniors have been working on a few topics for more than 6 months. Such a long time research on a focused section had helped them gain profound knowledge of the subject.

The sessions were very fruitful and fun learning. Formal presentations will be held after Diwali. A few of the faculty members shall be invited to judge the presentations and work done by the members of the community.
