The IAS VJEC SBC conducted industrial visit to EL POWER TRANSFORMERS to have a better understanding about the transformer production. The visit was held on 26th of February 2014. The industry is located at Palakkad district in Kerala. The industrial visit team was accompanied by 4 staff members. They are Mr.Nikhil Valsan, Mr. Jobin Rocky, Mr.Jithin and Sr Ancelin of EEE dept. Our group consisted of 52 students.
There students came across different machines used for testing transformer equipments namely CT testing panel, PT testing panel, high power frequency testing panel, transformer oil test kit, primary and secondary winding core in a transformer etc.
On 25th January 2014, with an intension to give basic knowledge on MAT LAB, we conducted a one day workshop. The class was handled by Mr. Nikhil Valsan 52 students of s6 EEE attended the work shop. The program was fruitful and students got awareness in MAT LAB. Both the programming and the simulink were dealt in the workshops.
As part of the activities of the IEEE IAS VJEC SBC, we conducted an electrical based project presentation for the final year B.tech students. The students were divided into different groups and were made to work for each topics. The different projects in the presentation were:
Coconut harvesting machine
Automatic plant irrigation system
Design and fabrication of novel smart meter architecture using GSM network
The IEEE IAS VJEC SBC conducted a workshop on energy harvesting on 27th January in the afternoon session. The workshop was conducted by Jayakumar Nair, Programme manager ,ANERT(The Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology) Palakkad. The workshop gave a better idea of different renewable sources like solar, wind and other sources . The necessity of the conservation of energy was also dealt with. Around 150 students and 12 staffs attended the workshop.
Industry Applications Society, IAS student chapter under the aegis of BVPIEEE (Student branch of IEEE in BVCOE) was recently given approval to be formed in Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering, New Delhi, India. Induction ceremony for the same was held on 2nd March, 2015. Dr. Peter Magyar, Head- Chapter and Membership Development Committee, IAS-IEEE graced the occasion with his esteemed presence.
IAS student branch of Vimal Jyothi engineering college inaugurated on 27th January 2014 in presence of the delegates Mr. Peter Magyar IAS CMD chair, Mr. Blake Lloyd president IEEE IAS and Mr. Sreekanth Vasudev.
Mr. Nikhil Valsan K chapter advisor delivered the welcome speech. After that Mr. Midhun Manohar read the IEEE code of ethics. Fr. Geo Pulikan chairman of Vimal Jyothi engineering college addressed the gathering. The function was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. After the inauguration Mr. Blake Lloyd gave the few words to audiences. Dr. Benny Joseph college principal gave the message to the gathering. Mr. Peter Magyar gave the first membership card to Mr. Darwin Joseph. Then there was an introductory class by Mr.Peter Magyar about IAS CMD activities. After that Mr. Sreekanth vasudev gave a brief talk on IAS Region-10 activities. Then there was a prize and certificate distribution for the events conducted by IAS SBC. Mr. Magyar did the distribution of certificates. Fr. Jinu Vadakkemulanjina, administrator of Vimal Jyothi, Ms. Laly James head of the dept. electrical and electronics engineering delivered the felicitation.

On 21-10-2013 a workshop on programmable logic control (PLC) was conducted by Industry Applicaions Society (IAS) and dept of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of vimal jyothi engineering college. The workshop start by welcome speech that lead by our branch councillor Mr.Nikhil valsan.The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sarin C R (Assst. Prof. EEE dept.). The section was very interesting. First of all he give an introduction about the PLC then he teached us how to proamme in PLC.It was full of pictures no charactrs are there in programme. Its very interesting to programme in PLC. He also showed as the hardware of it too. The section wind up with the vote of thanks by our chapter chair Mr. Jyothis Joseph. The session was very useful and fruitful for us.
The second venture of IEEE IAS SBC in 2014 was “Welcome & Award Ceremony and Technical Talk by Mr. Blake Lloyd” held on 23/01/2014. Mr. Blake Lloyd, President IEEE Industry Applications Society and Dr. Peter Magyar, Fellow IEEE, IEEE IAS Chapters and Membership Development Chair were the chief guests for the event. Mr. Murali Krishnan, former chairperson was honored with the “Outstanding Contributions Award” for the exemplary service to the IAS activities of our chapter in the year 2012-‘13, by Mr. Blake Lloyd. Mr Kiran P, former member was honored with the “Academic Excellence Award” by Dr. Peter Magyar, for scoring highest marks among the IAS members in the academic year 2012-‘13. Prize for the winners of “Yauktika” and “Samazya” (contests conducted during 1st Anniversary celebration of IAS SBC) were also distributed. This was followed by the talk on “IAS Benefits and Opportunities” by Dr. Peter Magyar. The morning session ended with the Technical Talk on “Effects of Modern Variable Speed Drives on Motor Winding Insulation” by Mr. Blake Lloyd, President IAS.
After lunch, a boating trip was organized for the IAS members with Mr. Blake Lloyd and Dr. Peter Magyar in the beautiful back waters of Ashtamudi Lake, Kollam. This trip was a new experience and a great opportunity for all the members to interact with guests.
As a part of the Girl’s day celebration at KMEA Engineering College, Ernakulam, Miss Preethy V. Warrier, Secretary, Women In Engineering, (Vice Chair – IAS AVV SBC) was invited as a guest to deliver a talk.
She addressed the gathering on the benefits of IEEE Women in Engineering (WiE), carrier opportunities for the students, the various awards and recognition given by WiE and WiE Student-Teacher and Research (STAR) program. She replied to many queries put forward by the IEEE Student Members and provided various suggestions on how they can better their activities inside and outside the college.
As part of Vidyut ’14, National Level Tech Fest of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, IEEE Student Branch in association with Industry Applications Society conducted a two day workshop on “Energy Efficient Machines” on 30th and 31st Jan, 2014. The sessions were handled by Engineers Ms. Uma S., Mr. Prabhu, and Mr. Muthu Murugan from VI Microsystems, Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. Around 102 students from different branches of Engineering participated for the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. P. S. Chandramohanan Nair, Chairman, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Dept. of Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri, and Dr. P. Kanakasabapathy, Vice Chairman, , Electrical and Electronics Engineering Dept. of Amrita School of Engineering Dept., ASE Kollam. The sessions commenced after the inaugural function.
