One of the main projects of our student branch in 2013 was course of technical English. Unfortunately there is no English at all in curriculum of our faculty and especially no technical English. It is common fact that nowadays English in engineering professions is pure necessity. Driven by the stated fact and also by the desire to provide members of our student branch opportunity to be active part of IAS and its events, conclusion was made that first project of our SB should be course of technical English.

About 267 students attended the session where they were told all about what is IAS and what does IAS student branch at DA-IICT do for the students. The juniors were shown a video about the past activities and events which were associated with IAS. This activity helped in fostering a strong sense of involvement between the freshers and IAS student branch. Also the quadcopter project under IAS was displayed to provide a glimpse of the unmanned UAV workshop to be held in late October this year.

IAS SB DA-IICT organized an introductory session on Joomla web development. Students were called in for hands on session for the same. Around 20 students had attended the session and we hope to continue these sessions on Joomla as a lecture series. The IAS SB DA-IICT website is also Joomla based so the students were given hands on session on that itself. This was our first step to teaching students more about open source technologies.
