Web seminar by Prof. Ing. Giuseppe Parise on “A summary on the IEC protection against electric shock”
On January 9th, 2014, the IAS Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh) SB Chapter in cooperation with the Electrical Machines Laboratory and the Division of Software of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering organized a web seminar by Prof. Ing. Giuseppe Parise entitled “A summary on the IEC protection against electric shock”.
A part of our vision as a student branch chapter is to create and establish a connection with other chapters not only in Region 8 but in other regions too.
Having this in mind, after dedicating a section in our magazine (DIPLOMA) that includes news from other chapters and in order to create a more immediate and close connection between the members, we have created a forum (you could find the link below) where every member of every chapter could post news about its chapter, the past and the upcoming activities and of course any concerns or ideas.
We would like to invite you all to be a part of our forum and help us build a new relationship between us.
Our Student Branch Chapter in collaboration with the Electrical Machines Laboratory and Division of Software, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has organized a lecture by Dr. Konstantinos Georgiadis on:
“The admission to an organization and structure of a successful presentation of ourselves: Tips and proper placement of candidate partners.”
Brief seminar description
During the first part of his presentation Dr. Georgiadis will explain to us how Human Resources Department functions. He will develop not only the goals and aspirations but also the challenges for a young engineer in the job market. Then, he will analyze the procedures followed in a company in order to choose the right personnel that will meet the current business needs and he will give us advice on how to present ourselves. The seminar will conclude with a real interview.
Our Student Branch Chapter in collaboration with the Electrical Machines Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering had the honor to organize a workshop by Mr. Lloyd, IAS President and Dr. Magyar Chapters and Membership Development Department Chair on:
“IAS overview” and “The electric car and the renewable energy sources – Hype or solution?”
During the first part of the workshop Mr. Lloyd informed us about IAS, the broad range of engineering that IAS covers, the members of IAS and the chapters and the financial sponsor while he was referred to the industrial and practical side of IAS in contrast with IEEE. Closing his lecture, Mr. Lloyd informed us about the standards maintained by IAS, the educational courses and the IAS publications.
At the second part of the workshop, Dr. Magyar informed us about the IEEE regions, the member and chapter distribution where we were able to see that about the 90% of student chapters is in regions 8-10. Moreover, Dr. Magyar explained us about the student activity and why this is important for the development of IEEE. Moving to the IAS student membership Dr. Magyar informed us about the development of IAS Chapters until 2013 and the chapters’ support that is provided by IAS. Closing his speech, Dr. Magyar explained us the importance of meetings and workshops and the reason why IAS is such an important society in IEEE.
Our Student Branch Chapter in collaboration with the Electrical Machines Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering organized a live broadcast from the NTUA΄s lecture by Professor Shmuel Oren on:
After a motivational speech given by Dr. Peter Magyar, an IEEE fellow and IAS Chapters and Membership Development Department Chair and Professor Mark Halpin, an IAS Past President and an Alabama distinguished Professor, we founded our IAS Student Branch Chapter in cooperation with our chapter’s advisor Prof. Athanasios Karlis, an assistant professor of the Electrical Machines Laboratory, Division of Energy Systems, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace.
Academic trip to Photovoltaic Park Michaelides and Sunlight Company
As a part of our scheduled workshop (“IAS overview” and “The electric car and the renewable energy sources – Hype or solution?”), we visited the Photovoltaic Park Michaelides 2MW and the local company Sunlight.
Here is what IAS Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh) Student Branch Chapter say about their magazine.
On May 2013 we started our chapter’s magazine (DIPLOMA) where our readers could find news about IAS, news concerning our chapter and topics related with engineering and industry.
We would like to create and establish a connection with other chapters in our region and afterwards, with chapters from other regions. Having this in mind we have dedicated a section in our magazine to chapter news.
DIPLOMA will be distributed electronically from our site and it is available in English and Greek.
