IAS IEEE INSAT SB taking new initiatives

IAS IEEE INSAT Student branch came up with a
new idea this year and organized the first ever
held Industrial forum on Renewable Energy. The
event was held at INSRenewableril 7th. It was IAS’
first edition and certainly not the last one.The
main goal was to promote the renewable energy
sector in Tunisia and encourage students to take
the opportunity to work on this field. IAS IEEE
INSAT SB focused on really involving all members
in order for them to be satisfied and keep on leading the future generations within IAS IEEE INSAT SB.

Industrial visit to KARMEX

Details of the visit: Date: February 28th
Place: Karmex Sarl, Industrial Zone Grombalia 8030 Tunisia
Number of participants: 20 Students

Because the industrial world is very diversified and encloses many fields IEEE IAS INSAT student branch chapter organized a second industrial visit for this year and this time to KARMEX.

It was an enriching experience for the students, they got the opportunity to explore the industrial universe, have a deeper insight into the field of automotive pipe production and manufacturing and gain professional skills.

About the company:

Founded in 1993, KARMEX

S.A.R.L is a wholly exporting industrial company headquartered in Grombalia, which specializes in the manufacture of steel piping and pipelines for the automotive sector.

It has between 200 and 500 employees working to excel in this area.

KARMEX also specializes in: bending, forming, drilling, calibrating, brazing on steel pipes and other components.

Supply Chain Workshop

Details of the workshop:
Date: February 21st
Place: INSAT
Number of participants: 16 Students

In order to widen the knowledge of the future engineers about the issue of the supply chain and to discover the dilemmas of its world, IEEE IAS INSAT student branch chapter organized a workshop for its members on this issue.

The workshop explained how the supply chain is a system of organizations, people, activities, information, and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to customer.

Supply chain activities involve the transformation of natural resources, raw materials, and components into a finished product that is delivered to the end customer.

The participants witnessed a real live simulation on how an industry manage its productions and suppliers.

The workshop was conducted successfully by Mr. Oussema from the PFI consulting center.

During the Tunisian Students and Young Professionals Congress (TSYP) which is the IEEE Tunisia section’s Annual Meeting where more than 500 engineering students from several Tunisian public and private universities, as well as young professionals, gather together to learn further details about the IEEE technical, professional, and education benefits; and to discuss the future engineering challenges worldwide and in Tunisia, IEEE IAS Chapter – INSAT Student Branch participated in a Workshop on Industry Applications / Student chapters’ challenge led by Dr. Peter Magyar the IAS CMD Chair and Mr. Seif El Hajjem IEEE IAS Tunisia Chapter chair, where we learned more about Decision Points in Career and Life as well as Being a Volunteer.

And we also participated in the challenge of the “Most Active IAS Chapter in Tunisia during 2017” where miss Naouel Cherif (IAS-INSAT Student Branch Human resources manager) did a little presentation on the several activities organized by our student branch during the year of 2017.

And by a total approval of the member of the jury, we won the award consisted of 150 $.

IAS INSAT is not always about conferences, technical activities, workshops, industrial visits… It is a lot more than that. IAS is an opportunity to establish new relationships and friendships and create great memories too.

We know that maintaining a strong bond with our members is essential to our success.

Therefore we organized several activities as team building. So within our chapter, you can “Have fun too”.

As a teambuilding, we chose to spend the whole Sunday at Sidi Bou Saïd’s park. We took advantage of the good weather by alternating between several games and fun activities making us closer and more united as a team and as an IAS family.

Everyone had fun and enjoyed their time.

IEEE IAS INSAT Student Branch Chapter saw the daylight on 16 October 2014.

Since the founding of the student chapter. We aim to provide knowledge to our members through organizing various events, workshops, training…

Our mission is to make from our Student Branch Chapter a linking bridge between the academic and the professional fields for our student members.

IEEE IAS INSAT Student Branch Chapter 2017-2018 board and members’ worked together to fulfill these goals and to achieve a new level of success and prodigiousness.

Lean Manufacturing and Management Training Sessions

Details of the training sessions:
Date: August 26th and 27th
Place: SESAME University
Number of participants: 18 students
Number of sessions: 2 sessions

The IEEE INSAT Student branch organized the “5 days of summer school” event in SESAME University. It’s a five-day event during which, training sessions and workshops were provided for the participants. Various themes have been selected, gathering all of the chapters and the affinity groups. It was a great opportunity for the participants to get started with IEEE activities for this current year and get prepared for the engineering career. This event is in collaboration with the freshly established IEEE SESAME Student Branch.

During this important event, the IAS INSAT Student branch chapter, arranged, for two days, a training session in Lean Manufacturing and Management: the first module of the Yellow Belt. Lean Manufacturing and Management is a systematic method for waste minimization within a manufacturing system without sacrificing productivity. It is a great tool that helps the students learn how to manage a high-quality production process and help them face their professional career. These two-day courses were led by our great trainer, Mr. Amine ELABED, from the L2M center.

 

IEEE Day by IAS INSAT SB Chapter

Attendees: 200 IEEE INSAT Student members + 300 INSAT students (none members)
Topic: IEEE Day’s theme is: “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”

IEEE Day: Celebrating the first time in history when engineers worldwide and IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884.

IEEE Day’s theme is: Leveraging

Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. While the world benefit s from what’s new, IEEE focuses on what’s next. IEEE Day 2017 is the 8th edition of the same and was celebrated on 4th October 2017.

This year IEEE INSAT Student Branch and IEEE IAS INSAT chapter took part in this celebration.

With only one goal, to make members and INSAT students know about Industry Applications Society and about our chapter activities, IEEE IAS INSAT organized a booth decorated with flyers, IAS INSAT banner and a big screen showing pictures of our special moments and our past events within IAS INSAT SB. 2

We invited students to our booth, provided them with information and answered all of their questions.

The member of the board as well as the

IAS volunteer’s worked on some projects exposed on the awaited day, for instance:

  • A led cube that shows our chapter name
  • A remote-controlled robot handing flyers to attract attendees to our booth.
  • A hologram that shows many photos in 3D.
  • A web application Quiz to help the participants know more about famous characters in the scientific field.

This organization was successful thanks to the great effort of IAS INSAT SB Chapter volunteers and members of the board.

 

LabVIEW Training Sessions

Date: September 2017 – January 2018
Place: National Institute of Applied Science and Technology, INSAT
Number of participants: 60 Students
Number of sessions: 8 sessions

Engineering is dedicated to meet human needs. Thus engineers must master several tools to contribute effectively to the advancement of technology, to stay ahead of the curve, to think beyond current challenges and to develop solutions for the future. Therefore, IEEE IAS INSAT SB Chapter organized a series of training sessions in LabVIEW in collaboration with National Instruments (NI) program LSA (LabVIEW Student Ambassador).

The LabVIEW Student Ambassador (LSA) Program empowers engineering students to learn the LabVIEW graphical programming environment used by millions of engineers and scientists to develop sophisticated measurement, test and control systems.

All the participant students benefited from good quality workshops giving them the opportunity to achieve LabVIEW proficiency, certification, and product support.

The workshops were conducted by Saif FAIDI, who is LSA, senior year student in Industrial Computing & Automatic Control at INSAT. Participants learned the basics of LabVIEW, how to develop applications with the LabVIEW graphical development environment and create applications using the “state machine” design template.

 

Quality Management System standards ISO 9001 certified training

Date: November 11th, 12th, and 18th
Place: IMDTEC (AQI) center, Borj-louzir, Ariana
Number of participants: 36 Students

IEEE IAS Chapter – INSAT Student Branch in collaboration with AQI (African Quality Institute), organized an international management system standards ISO 9001 2015 version certified training (International certificate).

The ISO 9001 standard defines requirements for the establishment of a quality management system for organizations wishing to continuously improve customer satisfaction and provide compliant products and services.

This certification will help the students know more about the quality management within the industries and improve their technical and professional skills in this field, as well as have an important asset in their resume.

 

Industrial visit to SEA

Place: SEA Latelec, Industrial Zone Charguia 1, 2035 Ariana Tunisia
Number of participants: 10 Students

About the visit:

Being an engineer is not only about following a thoroughly scientific and technical training but also about having a better understanding of the industry and its environment.

In this purpose IEEE, IAS Chapter INSAT student Branch organized an industrial visit to SEA Latelec in order to deepen the knowledge of its members in the industrial sector.

During the visit Mrs. Boutheina BOUSSETTA, Human resources Manager, – and Mr. Amine KAROUI,-Industrial engineer-, guided us and shared information about the company and the manufacturing process at SEA Latelec Tunisia.

About the company:

SEA LATelec is a Tunisian subsidiary of the LATECOERE group. It is the world No. 2 aeronautical cabling and specializes in the production of cable harnesses and aircraft equipment on board.

This company focuses mainly on three sectors: aeronautics, military, and space.

It was able to position itself second in the field of embedded wiring and has become the world leader in electrical furniture and the European leader in satellite cabling.

Problem-solving workshop

Details of the workshop:

Number of participants: 40 Students

This year IAS INSAT chapter is organizing for the first time an industrial forum under the theme of renewable energy that is going to take place on April the 7th.

This forum’s main purpose is to enlighten students on the theme of renewable energy and give them the chance to work with industry professionals.

The concept of the forum is as follows:

– Many teams will be formed.
– Every team will choose a project in the renewable energy field.
The teams will be matched to the appropriate industry that offers to coach the project.
– Every team will have a mentor and will be in connection with the industry through a member from the organization committee.
– A jury formed from industrials and professionals will choose the best projects on the day of the event

Therefore, IAS INSAT chapter organized the forum’s first workshop, (A problem-solving workshop) in order to help the teams choose their project and their teammates.

The workshop consists of:

An overview presentation treating the following subjects :

– Renewable Energy
– Potential themes
– Partnership with companies

  • First Step :

– Brainstorming on Energy problems existing in Tunisia
– Each participant filed in an individual survey in order to share his thoughts

 

  • Second Step :

The problem-solving technique consists of matching the potential problems, the passions, the stack holders and the solutions with each other.

  • Third step :

Each team will gather to discuss their potential projects
Each team will be handed a worksheet to give an overview about their project and the theme they will be focusing on.

  • Fourth step: Pitching 1.0

Each team had 5 minutes to present their idea and get feedback from all the other participants.

The workshop was concluded by a Business Model Canvas presentation given by the talented Mr. Aziz Ben Frija

 

Renewable Energy workshop

In order to lay the groundwork for all the participants in the renewable energy industrial forum to be ready for the D-day, IAS-INSAT chapter organized a second workshop treating the most important topics of this field.

The workshop consisted mostly of presentations led by professionals in these subjects:

  • Biomass: it stands for getting energy by burning wood and other organic matter. It is classed as a renewable energy source because plant stocks can be replaced with new growth.Bioenergy systems offer significant possibilities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions due to their immense potential to replace fossil fuels in energy production.

  • Photovoltaic panel and energy storage: the photovoltaic panel is a term which covers the conversion of light into electricity using semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic effect. A typical photovoltaic system employs solar panels, each comprising a number of solar cells, which generate electrical power. PV installations may be ground-mounted, rooftop mounted or wall mounted.
  • Piezoelectric energy: The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure and latent heat leading to electric energy without depletion of natural resources.

The workshop was presented by Mr. Miladi Mansour expert Ph.D. student and professor and Ms. Saidi Rafika Ph.D. student in biology.
