The IEEE GEM 2018 conference is a platform for disseminating innovative research and development work on game, entertainment, and media technologies, applying lessons learned, and developing new ideas through audience interaction. Participation from all sectors including academia, industry, and government is welcome. The IEEE GEM 2018 conference brings together researchers, developers, industry, and government partners for formal and informal engagement and examination of emergent features of computer game development for entertainment, for learning/teaching, for serious purposes, and to impact society. IEEE GEM 2018 also provides an important forum for future game, entertainment, and media development talent to gain perspective on the knowledge, skills and attitude required to succeed in the game development world.
It is a great pleasure to introduce you to IEEE GEM 2018 and invite your participation in this year’s conference. In bringing the conference to its current state of organization I have had the opportunity to work with an amazing team of volunteers – I would like to thank all of you sincerely for your efforts to date; today, IEEE GEM has a line-up of 9 inspiring keynote speakers; 3 topical panel sessions and 2 challenging hands-on technical workshops. Our venue, the Alice Perry Engineering Building, at the National University of Ireland Galway has capacity for up to 24 speakers sessions – now we wait for your research contributions to complete what will be an inspirational conference program.
