Bio

Mr. Piyush Verma currently works as Senior Energy Market Analyst at the International Energy Research Centre, and based in Cork, Ireland. He is an energy policy professional focused on the development of energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate change policies through an integrated approach. He has more than 10 years of experience in technology related policy and has developed and implemented several projects and policies at the national, as well as, international level. He has worked in India, Vanuatu, and New Zealand on energy efficiency and renewable energy policies. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and has received numerous national/international level awards. He has recently been selected as Future Energy Leader 2018 by the World Energy Council, London and will be representing Ireland in global energy dialogues.

Piyush is an Electrical Engineer, has a postgraduate in Power System Engineering and a PhD in Energy Efficiency Technology and Policy from The University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is also a Certified Energy Manager of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India.

Professor Alan Brent

Bio

Professor Alan Brent is the inaugural holder of the Chair in Sustainable Energy Systems in the Faculty of Engineering at Victoria University of Wellington. He holds bachelor degrees in engineering (chemical) and philosophy (sustainable development); master degrees in science (environmental engineering), engineering (technology management), and philosophy (sustainable development); and a PhD in engineering management. Since 1995 he consulted to a variety of industry and public sectors in a number of countries in the fields of environmental engineering and management. His research focus now revolves around sustainable technology management, with an emphasis on the energy sector. Before joining Victoria he was a Professor of Engineering Management and Sustainable Systems in the Department of Industrial Engineering, and the Associate Director of the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies, at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. From 2017 he is appointed as an Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Stellenbosch University. Until 2017 he was also appointed as a part-time Professor of Sustainable Life Cycle Management in the Graduate School of Technology Management, at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

 


Professor Bo Nørregaard Jørgensen

Bio

Professor Bo Nørregaard Jørgensen is founder and head of Center for Energy Informatics at the University of Southern Denmark. Center for Energy Informatics is an interdisciplinary research center focusing on innovative solutions for facilitating the transition towards a smart sustainable energy system. The center’s research is conducted in close collaboration with industrial partners, public bodies, and government agencies. As head of center, Dr. Jørgensen represent University of Denmark at national and international events, in advisory boards and government reference committees. He is appointed member of the Danish Academy of Technical Science. Dr. Jørgensen research focuses on integration and management of demand-side flexibility with supply-side fluctuations, from the business and technological perspectives. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern Denmark, a M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Computer System Engineering from Odense University, Denmark.

 


Associate Professor Sanjib Kumar Panda

Bio

Associate Professor Sanjib Kumar Panda received a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with 1st Class Honours from Sardar Vallabhabhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology, Surat, India, in 1983. He was awarded the Gold Medal for securing the highest marks not only amongst the B. Engg. (Electrical) but also for securing the highest marks amongst all the B. Engg. (Civil, Mechanical and Electrical) students. He also earned a Masters of Technology Degree from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India in 1987. He was awarded the Gold Medal for securing the highest marks amongst all the M. Tech. (Electrical) students. Subsequently, he earned a PhD. Degree from the University of Cambridge, U.K., in 1991. He was awarded the Nehru Cambridge Fellowship and Overseas Research Studentship from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust for Cambridge University for his PhD studies, 1987-1991.

He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore as a Lecturer in 1992. He is currently serving as an Associate Professor. He has served as Director (Education) at the Design Technology Institute, a joint-venture between NUS and TU/e, The Netherlands and funded by EDB, Singapore. He has served as the Group Head of the Drives, Power and Control Group from 2007-2009. He was appointed as Area Director, Power & Energy Research Group of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at NUS on 1st January 2010.

 


Dr. Thai Vo

Bio

Dr. Thai Vo received the BSc degree in electrical engineering from Hanoi University of Sciences and Technologies, Hanoi, Vietnam in 2006 and his MSc and PhD degrees from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 2012 and 2016 respectively. He was an Electrical Engineer at the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (2006-2011), at NAVARI, Sydney, Australia (2015) and at WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, Australia (2016). Currently he is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Electrical Energy Systems Department, Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. His research interests include design and implementation of control systems for power electronics (AC/DC, DC/DC converters), renewable energies and storages integration to power systems the applications of ICT in smart energy systems.
