IEEE Kolkata GRSS Chapter sponsors three conferences, International Conference on Communication, Devices, and Networking, A One day National Workshop on Remote Sensing and Applications (RSA 2017) and Workshop on data science and machine learning (DSML 2017) were organized. A specific session on the topic related to GRSS is held. The prizes for student paper competition for the session were organized and the prizes are provided by GRSS Chapter.
A good number of graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students were guided by the members of the society and several technical papers on remote sensing have been published. As an outcome of several initiatives including this one results in a 3-fold increase in no of GRSS members. Two New student chapters are created at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Sikkim and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Kolkata.
Several outreach programs are conducted and GRSS sessions are organized in several conferences. To attract new members, GRSS membership was given as complimentary for 1st year to the winners of Student paper competitions held at the conferences. As a result, the number increase almost 3-fold in last year. We plan to increase the number further by expanding the reach of the society at other parts of the Kolkata section and organize focused seminar/workshop and student prize competition.
