Memphis .NET User Group – AdvancedHMI: A new paradigm in Automation Controls

Monday, August 7th, 2017

Memphis .NET User Group

Thursday, August 24, 2017
6:00 PM

This Month’s Topic: AdvancedHMI: A new paradigm in automation controls.

The integration of user facing software with traditional automation controls has always been an expensive, specialized area. Software systems referred to within the automation industry as SCADA and HMI are normally closed loop systems that use specialized software that, at most, supports a small level of customization. This presentation will introduce the wider .NET community to an open source solution that is based in Microsoft’s Visual Studio environment while still retaining the requisite levels of industrial robustness required for manufacturing facilities to reliably operate 24/7. Designed to be infinitely flexible, while removing the requirement of hiring a traditional computer programmer, AdvancedHMI has brought the industrial controls industry an open source solution that spans the “drag and drop” paradigm up through the ability to general totally custom controls. The presentation will include a live demonstration of the AdvancedHMI solution including the actual communication with production level hardware.

Our Speaker:

Kevin Berisso is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Memphis. His areas of expertise include robotics, automation, systems integration and automatic identification. Kevin has worked as a manufacturing engineer doing controls work and as a custom software project engineer. He also has a consulting company that does .NET based bar code and RFID based software integration. Kevin’s current academic research involves a newer bar code technology called DotCode and he is currently working to develop a baseline body of knowledge on the performance characteristics of the symbology.

Great Solutions Start with Great Requirements
Great ones can make everything better
Bad ones can make everything worse

Improve your software and systems development by increasing quality, productivity, and documentation for traceablity.

Requirements are the foundation of any successful project. Clear expectations and traceability during the development process is of upmost importance, especially in highly regulated, safety-critical industries like medical devices. By writing high-quality requirements to begin with, we know that we are building the correct product that behaves in the desired fashion under increasingly complex scenarios, enabling complete traceability from conceptual prototyping to regulatory submission. The project benefits most when everyone on the development team understands and practices this systems-thinking approach.

Please join us for a tool-neutral course with a focus on requirements management (RM) during the medical device development process:

• Why is RM important in medical device development?
• What are some RM best practices that can be easily implemented?
• What does RM look like for everyone involved in medical device development (marketing, engineer, PM, medical practitioner)?

At the end of the course, you will receive a 90 day trial of BlueMix

Please Bring your Laptops
