Announcing MARSS 2018 Conference

The third International Conference on Manipulation, Automation and Robotics at Small Scales (MARSS) is held from 04-08 July 2018 in Nagoya, Japan
http://marss-conference.org.

General Chair: Fumihito Arai (JP), Program Chairs: Dan Popa (US), Metin Sitti (DE), and Xianmin Zhang (CN).

This recently-established annual conference is managed by a high-level Steering Committee and technically supported by IEEE-RAS and IEEE-NTC. The Steering Committee has the ambition to develop MARSS to the flagship event for cross-disciplinary R&D communities to discuss current activities in all areas related to manipulation and automation (including measurement and characterization) at micro & nano scales, and in all kinds of small scale robots and their applications.

We cordially invite you to attend and contribute to the conference http://marss-conference.org/download/MARSS2018_Call-for-Papers.pdf. The conference offers 5-6 keynote talks, about 20 plenary talks and parallel sessions (oral presentations only). Full or short papers on MARSS-related topics are invited, see details at http://marss-conference.org/submission/paper-submission. All presented full papers following IEEE format will be included into IEEE Xplore and indexed by Ei. Selected full papers will be recommended to J. of Micro-Bio Robotics (Springer), and other renowned Journals for publication of Special Issues. The conference also features an on-site exhibition.

Please consider organizing a Special Session at MARSS2018.You may check http://marss-conference.org/submission/special-session-proposal for details. Every Special session organizer (at least 5 registered presentations required) will benefit from an appreciation allowance.

Submission of full or short papers:               February 1, 2018

Special session proposals:                               February 1, 2018

You are kindly requested to disseminate information on MARSS2018 in your professional networks.

Reminder – Call for Proposals for Future IEEE NTC Sponsored Conference Sites

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is calling for proposals for future sites for IEEE NANO 2020 and for IEEE NMDC 2019.

Early indication of an intention to submit a proposal is strongly recommended.

Proposals may be submitted in PowerPoint, Word, or PDF formats, but PowerPoint files are required for the presentation. A Conference Proposal Reference guide and a PPT template is available on request.

Formal proposals must be e-mailed prior to the appropriate deadline of 15-Oct-2017.

See http://sites.ieee.org/nanotech/call-proposals-future-ieee-ntc-sponsored-conference-sites/ for details on making a submission.

Reminder – Call for Proposals for the 2018 IEEE Summer School on Nanotechnology

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) is requesting proposals for its Third Summer School. The school is expected to maintain an educational focus on the fundamental theory and applications of any one of the thematic areas identified by the 2017 IEEE-NANO Conference, which is the flagship conference hosted by IEEE in the area of nanotechnology. These schools are expected to deliver highly differentiated programs in their topical area with content delivered by global leaders and thinkers from academia, industry, and / or research laboratories.

Dates and Length: The third IEEE Summer School on Nanotechnologywill be held in the summer of 2018. This summer school is anticipated to involve a 5-day program, although slightly longer or shorter durations may be acceptable in certain cases.

Summer School Format: A successful summer school will consist of a synergistic combination of tutorial-style lectures (2-3 hour duration), research seminars (40-60 minutes), panel discussions, and/or visits to local academic laboratories and industrial organizations. Inclusion of additional components such as an introduction to potential career paths and avenues for research funding, which are particularly beneficial for early career researchers / students and are relevant to the thematic area chosen by the school, is highly encouraged.

Funding: The Administrative Committee of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council has approved $28K in total funding for the third summer school(s), with the maximum funding for a single proposal not to exceed $20K. This funding may be used for such expenses as travel contributions to participants and lecturers. Apart from the IEEE-NTC, the summer school is expected to be supported, in part, with funding from the local organizers. In addition, other sources of income such as participant registration (tuition) fees and / or industrial sponsorships may also be leveraged to meet the expenses involved with the organization of the summer school.

Important Dates:

  • Eligible period: May to September, 2018
  • Deadline for submitting the proposal: 30 September 2017
  • Notification of the outcome of the review process: 31 October 2017

Detailed information on proposal formatting guidelines and the review / selection process can be found at http://sites.ieee.org/nanotech/request-proposals-ntc-2018-summer-school/. Interested institutions are encouraged to submit proposals to the Summer School Subcommittee Chair, Prof. Arunkumar Subramanian at sarun@uic.edu.
