The Nigerian Section in collaboration with the Young Professionals AG and the newly formed student branch (SB) of Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja celebrated the #IEEEday2016 in style with other counterpart round the globe.

The celebration commenced on the 4th Oct, 2016 with a photo session at the Unity fountain, Abuja around 12:30pm in the afternoon. Young professional (YP) and experts from the industry took out time despite busy schedule to participate in this photo session.

In attendance include and not limited to the Abuja Chapter Chair Engr. Gani Oladipo SMIEEE, the Vice Chair Nigeria Section Engr. John Funso Adebayo SMIEEE and Engr. Abdullateef Aliyu SMIEEE. This session was full of excitement as attendees were all dressed in the IEEEday2016 T-shirts while the paparazzi urging attendee to pose in different style.

At the end of the photo session, the team were reminded on the need to invite other professionals to join a community of over 425,000 technology and engineering professionals united by a common desire to continuously learn, interact, collaborate, and innovate by taking advantage of  “be a member today Promo” with Promo Code: IEEEDAY2016.

On the 5th Oct, 2016 the team strategized on the big launch of the new and the first student branch in the federal Capital territory of Nigeria, the Nile University of Nigeria and the Virtual conference with content from the Power and Energy society (PES) and computer society (CS). The conference room internet setup, project and other facility were all put to test at the eve of the big event.

By 8:30am at the Nile University, Abuja the registration to attend the student branch launch commenced. In attendance include the Deputy vice chancellor Dr. Steve Adeshina SMIEEE, Dean of faculty Engineering Dr. Gokhan Koyunlu and the head of department of electrical engineering Prof. Okechukwu Ugweje SMIEEE. Also in attendance is Vice Chair of Nigeria Section Engr. John Funso Adebayo SMIEEE representing the Chair of Nigeria Section Engr. Raphael Onoshakphor SMIEEE, Abuja Chapter Chair Engr. Gani Oladipo SMIEEE and the Young Professional AG Chair Engr. Abdullateef Aliyu SMIEEE.

The day started with an opening remark from the Chief host Prof Okechukwu after which Engr. John Funso Adebayo delivered a welcoming address. The new formed Student SB was launched with the Chancellor introducing the pioneer student SB Chair and the Women in Engineering Chair, other Executives will be constituted.

The virtual conference commenced upon completion of the student branch lunch with a virtual paper presentation on the content “intellectual property in the digital collaboration Era”.

During the break , attendee took time to examine various projects executed by the students of the university that include the wireless phone charger, the automatic surge voltage regulator and model of a automatic traffic light system and other mind blowing innovation by the students.
