Section Report

In June, Power and Energy and Microwave Theory and Techniques Societies continued their series with informative talks on Wireless Power Transfer and Energy Harvesting for RFID and Cyber Security Issues in Electric Power Systems, respectively. The IEEE Member Insurance Group Program meeting was canceled but may be rescheduled via webcast.

Camp Invention will hold many one-week creative day camps for elementary students in July; short videos are at http://campinvention.org/2016-program/.   We also need help organizing the annual section picnic, to be held jointly with Washington Section this year on August 6th. Volunteers for these and other activities will receive first choice of opportunities at Globecom 2016 and WF-IoT 2016 to be held later this year; email nova.chair@ieee.org for more information.

Tickets are still available to watch the Nats host the O’s at National’s Stadium on August 25th; purchase online at http://www.nationals.com/ieee. Our events are posted on our web site http://sites.ieee.org/nova and Tweeted at @ieeenova.

Acknowledgements

Our section appreciates the tremendous amount of time Karl Berger spent preparing for, teaching, and following up on the Build An Internet of Things Weather Station workshop held in early June. Thank you also to logistics and classroom helpers Barry Douglass, Dan Cross-Cole, and Seddik Benhamida. All the feedback was positive and we hope to run the course again in the fall for those on the waitlist.
