Millimeter-Wave Power Amplifiers In FinFET Technology

Abstract: Fifth generation cellular communications standards (5G) target Gb/s data-rates, pushing the industry beyond to use frequencies above 26 GHz. To maintain acceptable link budgets with sufficient antenna apertures, arrays are typically required at these frequencies and electrical beam steering is needed to retain spatial coverage. CMOS FINFET’s represent an ideal technology match, given the high level of integration required; however, power amplifier design is challenging in this technology. Fortunately, due to the array gain and distributed power among many power amplifiers, the power output required per PA is moderate. This talk will focus on how to design such power amplifiers in FINFET technologies suitable for high levels of integration on a multi-transceiver die.

News from Any Location to Anywhere in the World: The Electronic News Gathering Paradigm Shift

Abstract: It used to be that a large truck with microwave dish antenna and extendable mast was an absolute necessity to cover a breaking news event. Nowadays, with today’s digital technologies, a camera person with a light-weight camera on his or her shoulder can cover news from almost any location – sending the live video and audio to anywhere in the world. At this technical presentation, we will describe the methodology behind the “connected cam” ENG system that is now in widespread and successful use by television broadcasters in the US.

Data and Algorithms for Mapping and Monitoring Urban Impervious Surface through Earth Observation

Abstract: Urban impervious cover information is essential for urban and environmental applications at the regional/national scales, such as metropolitan master planning, watershed conservation and restoration. A variety of image processing algorithms (e.g., spectral mixture analysis, or SMA, and machine learning approaches) have been developed to derive urban impervious surface information from satellite data. These algorithms have their own limitations which prevent wider applications, and it is necessary to accommodate these limitations for better urban impervious surface mapping. In this presentation, recent efforts and progress will be present.
