IC Insights releases top-20 semiconductor suppliers in 1Q16

IC Insights has released its list of the world’s top-20 semiconductor suppliers including three pure-play foundries and six fabless companies in the first quarter of 2016.  If the three pure-play foundries were excluded from the top-20 ranking, US-based IDM ON Semiconductor (US$817 million), China-based fabless supplier HiSilicon (US$810 million) and Japan-based IDM Sharp (US$800 million) would have been ranked in the 18th, 19th and 20th positions, respectively, IC Insights said.  The top-20 semiconductor companies’ combined sales decreased 6% on year in the first quarter of 2016, 1pp less than the total worldwide semiconductor industry growth rate, IC Insights noted.

Among the top-20 semiconductor companies in the first quarter of 2016, seven suffered double-digit revenue decreases on year and three – Qualcomm, Micron and SK Hynix – posted the worst results with 25% or more declines, IC Insights indicated.
