2019 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technology conference (ISGT)

February 17, 2019 @ 8:00 AM - February 20, 2019 @ 3:30 PM

The 10th Conference on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT 2019), sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), will be held February 17-20, 2019 in Washington D.C.

The Conference will feature plenary sessions, panel sessions, technical papers, and tutorials by experts representing the electric utilities, regulators, technology providers, academia, the national laboratories, and both federal and state governments. Industry professionals from more than 40 countries will converge in Washington, to attend the conference.  This year’s theme is “10 years of ISGT – Innovation for a Flexible and Resilient Grid.

As a member of the IEEE, we thought you might be interested to know about a few of the programs that will be included in this year’s ISGT conference.  Here are a few program highlights we wanted to bring to your attention:

Day 1 Plenary Session
: Past and Future Trends in Smart Grid  | 18 February 2019

Chaired by Julio Romero Agüero, Vice President, Strategy and Business Innovation, Quanta Technology with the following panelists:
• Rick Riley (Sr. VP Distribution Operations, Entergy)
• Joe Woomer (VP Grid and Technical Solutions, Dominion Energy)
• Miguel Ortega (VP Technical Services, Pepco Holdings Inc.)

NEW THIS YEAR – Live Demonstrations

This year, the conference will showcase technology with live simulation and interactive demos. The following demonstrations will take place Monday afternoon and during the Poster Session Monday evening:

• Multi-layered Resilient Microgrid Networks – Contributors: ABB, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Duke Energy
• GridAPPS-D – Contributors: Pacific Northwest National Lab
• Non-divergent State Estimator for Multi-Area Very Large Scale Interconnected Power Grids – Contributors: Northeastern University, PJM Interconnection
• Detection, Identification and Correction of Network Model Parameter Errors – Contributors: Northeastern University, University of Massachusetts-Lowell, ISO-New England
• A Verifiable Framework for Cyber-Physical Attacks and Countermeasures in a Resilient Electric Power Grid – Contributors: Arizona State University

Special Roundtable Session

IEEE PES recently formed the Industry Technical Support Task Force (ITS TF). The Task Force works closely with IEEE Standards Association, IEEE-USA, DOE, FERC, NERC, NATF, and other industry, government and regulatory agencies on complex issues impacting the energy sector. The ITS TF will lead a special roundtable discussion at this year’s conference.

Planning and Operating a Flexible and Resilient Grid: Lessons Learned and Vision for the Future  | 19 February 2019

Chaired by Marianna Vaiman, ITS TF, V&R Energy and Tom Pierpoint, ITS TF – with industry leaders discussing lessons learned and effective strategies for planning and operating a flexible and resilient grid. Panelist include:

• Shay Bahramirad, IEEE PES, ComEd
• Emanuel Bernabeu, ITS TF, PJM
• Babak Enayati, National Grid
• Tom Galloway, NATF
• Gary Kobet, TVA
