MEMS – 9:20am

Dr. Tim Dallas is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University. He has 18 years’

experience in the Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) field and has developed a MEMS-based educational

technology known as Class on a Chip. These devices are now ubiquitous, providing essential sensing (or actuation)

for an ever-growing list of applications that span automotive to medical to military. Engineers from a wide variety of

disciplines are needed to design, build and utilize these systems. This seminar will explore these devices and

illustrate why they will continue to be critical to our technology future.

Ethics Case Study – 10:40am

Jonathan Hartman is going to lead a case study discussion on ethics based on the Texas board actions and NSPE’s

guide for ethical situations. If you have a situation you would like to be presented to the group, please email

situation to to be potentially included in the program.

“What I have learned on the job”– 1:00pm

Eddy Sauer newly elected councilman with the City of Amarillo joining us and presenting “What I have learned on

the job: 5 Months on City Council” where he will discuss on the inner workings of the Amarillo City Council and

local government. Eddy graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1987 is a managing partner of Shemen

Dental Group and is the Past President of the Panhandle District Dental Society.

TSPE/TEF– 2:20pm

Trish Smith, CAE and Jennifer McEwan, Ph. D. will be joining us to present the recent Texas state legislative

session and its impact on the practice of engineering in Texas. Trends in other states as well as political tides in

Texas and their potential impacts on the profession will be discussed. Trish B. Smith, CAE (Certified Association

Executive) is the Executive Director of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Trish has been with TSPE for

20 years overseeing the programs and staff of the organization. She is also the Executive Director and a Trustee of

the Texas Engineering Foundation and manages the TSPE Political Action Committee for Engineers (PACE). She is

currently serving a third term as a member of the NSPE Executive Committee, Board of Directors and House of

Delegates. Jennifer McEwan, Ph. D. is widely known for her transportation expertise and knowledge of project

development and advancement. Prior to founding Grace & McEwan Consulting, Jennifer served as Senior Policy

Director at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig. She currently serves as TSPE Legislative & Governmental

Affairs Director, Treasurer of the Transportation Advocates of Texas, and policy director for the Texas

Transportation Alliance.

What’s New in Tech. – 3:40pm

We will welcome back Mr. Eric Spellmann to enlighten us on what is new and best in the world of Technology. Eric

Spellmann is the Owner and President of Spellmann & Associates, a technology company offering online marketing,

social media management, and website design.

¨ The Seminar is open to everyone! – Please invite others who might be interested

¨ There will be 1 hour of ethics education

¨ Seminar will begin at 9:15am with Late Registration Opening at 8:45am

¨ Lunch will be served beginning at 11:50 am and is included in the fee for the Seminar.

¨ Dress for this Seminar is casual

¨ Amarillo College will issue CEU certificates for 0.7 unit ( 7PDH) to attendees who are present for the ENTIRE Seminar.
