Hello, dear reader:

Greetings from the Montgomery IEEE chapter! As the secretary and puzzlemaster of the group, it is my honor to detail the successful completion of our first electrical engineering project. Indeed, our intrepid group has accomplished what many once thought impossible: we’ve created a functional (and marginally useful(!)) electronic device. I can’t speak for us all, but I think the project went exceptionally smoothly, and the only injuries sustained were minor!

So please, let me take you on a journey, as IEEE makes a…As part of a hallowed IEEE tradition, we make nonsense phrases out of perfectly good acronyms!

Haha, no, charming and whimsical whiteboard acronym, the S.P.R.E.E. we’re talking about is a Solar Photovoltaic Renewable Electron Encapsulator (learn to build your own here)! It harnesses the power of a super-massive, churning mass of hot plasma – and lets you charge your little netbook!

Instructables is/are great!

Our stalwart leader Sunny researches how to put all this stuff together

With components in hand and our goal in mind, we set about constructing the S.P.R.E.E.:

Dr. Fishman's forearm looks on majestically, ensuring our success and safety

Taking our time and soldering connections. The battery will be the receptacle for the sun's glorious power

Obscured in photo: the MASSIVE, GARGANTUAN FISSURE in box caused by esteemed Vice President Schultz

Connections are finished; it's time to put it all in the box.

IT WORKS! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The crown jewel of the project, the exterior solar panel.

Kit deems you worthy.

I.E.E.E. chapter-member Kit approves of the finished project.

Since the construction of the S.P.R.E.E. was so expedient, the group even had time to plan our next project, a semi-autonomous blimp device that will surely have the group explore the “electronics” pillar of IEEE. Hopefully that project ends up as edifying as this one was.

Hey guys, I’m Robert, people usually just call me Rob, I’m also another senior at Montgomery High School and the Vice-Chair of Montgomery’s IEEE Pre-U Division. Later in college, I would very much like to double major in computer science and computer engineering, and maybe have a minor in economics, applied mathematics, or french. I enjoy playing recreational golf outside of school, across several of the local county courses, and I also enjoy programming as a hobby. I’m actually really excited about the idea of the Montgomery IEEE, and many of the projects seem interesting and challenging. I hope to learn many new things this coming year, and I hope you all too!

Hi everyone, I’m Sanil, or Sunny if you want. I’m a senior at Montgomery High School, and I’m the Founder and Chair of the school’s IEEE Pre-U Division. I’ll most likely be double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with a minor in either Physics, Finance, or Economics. Otherwise, I’ll major in EE and double major in CS and one of the last three. I was on Robotics for two years, maybe I’ll go back to it this year, and I might be joining the Academic League as well.

I was asked to start this division by a colleague of mine, Dr. Ashutosh Dutta. He is the past chair of the Princeton Central-Jersey Section of the IEEE and the entire IEEE is really excited about these school divisions. I was really excited about this idea as well, so I decided to start it. Right now we have around 20 members and we’re still growing. Our projects are really cool and we hope to have a lot of fun this year, while still learning a great deal about engineering and computer science. I’m really looking forward to the next few months with this club.

Regards,

Sunny

Hello!

Welcome to the official website for the IEEE Student Club of Montgomery High School, a branch of IEEE Princeton / Central Jersey Section‘s Education Society Chapter. We are dedicated to solving problems using Engineering and Computer Science, learning a lot about the fields, innovating with some really cool projects, and helping our community with some socially beneficial projects as well.

More details can be found in the info section.

Regards,

Sunny
