Auburn University: Assistant Professor in Technical & Professional Communication

The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in technical and professional communication to begin Fall 2016. The teaching load is 2-2, with primary assignments in upper-division and graduate technical and professional communication courses as well as assignments in core and service courses. Individuals joining our faculty will be working with us to enhance our undergraduate major in Professional & Public Writing as well as our strong Master of Technical & Professional Communication program. Required qualifications include a PhD in Technical and Professional Communication, Writing Studies, or a closely allied field by the August 16, 2016 starting date; a strong research and teaching specialization and an academic background in technical and professional communication; evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in technical and professional communication; significant potential for successful research, publication, grant writing, and other scholarly/professional activities; interest in teaching first-year composition and/or service courses in business/technical writing; interest in teaching the gateway and capstone courses in the undergraduate major; and strong potential as a colleague taking part in the life and work of a unified department of English Studies (including majors in creative writing, literature, and professional writing; graduate concentrations in creative writing, literature, and rhetoric and composition, and a graduate program in technical and professional communication).  The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.

Desired qualifications: We are particularly interested in a colleague with the following qualifications: (1) teaching interests and expertise in web development, social media, digital rhetorics, or research methods (quantitative and qualitative) and (2) a research agenda and teaching interests that would benefit from our Lab for Usability, Communication Interaction, and Accessibility.
