Position Announcement Editor-in-Chief, IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication

The IEEE Professional Communication Society (PCS) is seeking applications from qualified individuals to become the next Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication. The new EIC will begin his or her tenure on 1 July 2016.

The Transactions is a refereed, archival journal published quarterly by PCS. Because it is a leading journal in the field of technical and professional communication, we must maintain extremely high standards and comply with the policies of the IEEE.

Duties: The EIC, together with the PCS Editorial Advisory Board, is responsible for setting the mission and direction of the journal. The EIC reports to the Chair, Editorial Advisory Board, and is expected to attend at least one meeting of the PCS governing body annually.

The EIC solicits submissions, coordinates peer reviews of manuscripts according to IEEE policy, and selects content for each quarterly issue. The EIC also reviews final page proofs for each issue prior to printing.

Qualifications: The EIC should have the following qualifications:

  • Doctorate preferred
  • Breadth of technical knowledge beyond technical communication
  • Knowledge of the double-blind peer review process
  • Active member of a related professional or technical society with a broad range of national and international contacts
  • 5 years’ experience with publishing for scholarly or professional audiences
  • 5 years’ experience as an editor
