In 2012, the Tesla Science Foundation notified IEEE PES that it was being awarded the Tesla Spirit Legacy Guardian Award. This award recognizes PES for its 37 year-long commitment to honoring the world’s best in the electrical engineering field with the IEEE Nikola Tesla Award, thus continuing to preserve Tesla’s legacy and keeping it alive. PES Past President Al Rotz accepted the award on behalf of the Society. The 2012 recipient of the IEEE Nikola Tesla Award, Dr. Manoj Shah of GE Global Research, also attended the award ceremony and the conference. Rotz presented a keynote on Sunday January 6th at the conference opening, and Shah presented a keynote during Monday’s sessions supporting the conference theme of “Why Tesla Matters.” The award, in addition to other Tesla memorabilia and pictures received from another conference attendee, will be displayed at the IEEE Operations Center in Piscataway, NJ.
