Region 5 covers twenty two chapters from Denver to New Orleans or El Paso to St. Louis and had several active chapters this past year.  Several chapters had applied for awards like the one application for Outstanding Chapter Award and three for High Performing Chapter Program.  The Central Texas Chapter in Austin, Texas even named Roy Matthews, PE their Outstanding Engineer.  Region 5 was fortunate enough to even start a new chapter in the High Plains Section.  If any other region 5 sections are looking to start a new PES chapter or are looking for other help, please contact Todd Hiemer, PE Region 5 Chapter Representative (todd.hiemer.pe@ieee.org) for assistance.  Todd is still looking to assist all region 5 chapters to participate in the one-day chapter training the Sunday before the General PES Meeting in Vancouver in July.  Several chapter offer training seminars and distinguished lectures programs and several company tours.  Chapters also support local student chapters with job fairs.  The University of Texas Student Branch is a model student branch which is very active (http://blogs.utexas.edu/ieeepes).  Chapters also supported middle school students with the Future City Competition which is developing future engineers.  PES’s official purpose is to encourage interest in power engineering along with member development.  Keep up the great work this coming year!
