IEEE Dayton Section PEAL (PE/IA/PEL) Chapter Hosts Student Networking and Professional Awareness Event
On October 30, 2013, the Dayton PEAL Chapter hosted a successful social/networking event for local college students, held at the University of Dayton Research Institute. Guest speaker Jim Watson presented “In Search of Diamonds,” which provided practical ideas for developing networking skills in classrooms, study groups, professional student activities, and contacts with working professionals. The evening also included a panel discussion and networking activity for the students. Panelists from local industry were invited to participate by providing personal insights into the roles which co-ops, interns, and newly graduated engineers play in their company’s business model. Over 40 students and professionals attended the event.
IEEE Pittsburgh Section, PES/IAS Joint Chapter Tours First Energy’s Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station Training Center and Simulator
The Pittsburgh PES/IAS Joint Chapter had the exciting opportunity to tour First Energy’s Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station Training Center and Simulator in Shippingport, PA, on November 14, 2013. The tour was attended by 35 members and guests.
Baltimore PES Hosts Annual Engineers Week Dinner at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County
On behalf of the Baltimore IEEE Section, the Baltimore PES Chapter hosted the February 19th Engineers Week Dinner during National Engineers Week 2014. Engineering professionals, high school students, college students, parents and educators were invited to enjoy dinner and an outstanding program of speakers. The event was held at UMBC in partnership with the Student Chapter.
The purpose of this annual event is to expose students to the engineering field and to provide a unique opportunity for networking and mentorship. Presentations included the IEEE Robotics Challenge, Opportunities and Challenges of an Engineering Education, and Physical Design and Construction of an Electric Transmission Substation. In addition to the presentations, Chapter leadership honored the Power & Energy Society’s 2013 Outstanding Engineer Award recipient.
