May-GovBd-MariesaThere are several exciting things occurring with respect to PES publications.

Our traditional journals are doing quite well. Submissions in all cases continue to increase as the high quality of the journals is recognized globally. The five-year impact factor for all of our journals indicate that our articles are having significant impact on the international scene. The impact factor for each of the PES traditional journals is listed below:

Five Year Impact Factor Article Influence Score
Smart Grid 5.776 1.598
Power Systems 4.368 1.042
Energy Conversion 4.114 1.334
Sustainable Energy 4.052 1.275
Power Delivery 1.970 0.600

Our newest journal, the open access IEEE Power & Energy Technology Systems Journal has not yet been assessed for a five year impact factor since its first articles were published in 2014, but we expect this journal to receive the same high recognition. This journal focuses on the technology aspects of power systems with a heavy emphasis on industry practices. Open access articles are provided with unrestricted online access through IEEE Xplore.  Please consider submitting a paper to this journal. Questions may be forward to the editor-in-chief Scott Sudhoff (sudhoff@ecn.purdue.edu).

To better reflect the changing technology trends, two of the journals have recently updated their scopes. These updated scopes are:

  • The IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion includes in its venue the research, development, design, application, construction, installation, operation, analysis and control of electric power generating and energy storage equipment (along with conventional, cogeneration, nuclear, distributed or renewable sources, central station and grid connection). The scope also includes electromechanical energy conversion, electric machinery, devices, systems and facilities for the safe, reliable, and economic generation and utilization of electrical energy for general industrial, commercial, public, and domestic consumption of electrical energy.
  • The scope of the IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery embraces innovations in electric apparatus for power delivery with a main focus on power transmission and distribution components. It also covers apparatus modeling, analysis, implementation and application issues such as power system protection, instrumentation, communication, and grounding; electromagnetic transients and power quality; and substation automation. The Transaction’s scope further includes research works leading to power engineering standards.

Mohammad Shahidehpour has completed his term as Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and has been replaced by Jianhui Wang from Argonne National Laboratory. We thank Prof. Shahidehpour for his excellent leadership during the formative years of this journal.

Our PES magazines also continue to shine. The Electrification magazine received the 2014 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the “New Magazines, Journals & Tabloids” category. Our flagship magazine, the Power & Energy magazine also received a merit award from the Society of Technical Communications for the 2013-14 issues and was a finalist in a MIN category that was won by Time Magazine.   Additionally, to make the P&E magazine more accessible to a larger audience, it has been moved to a new mobile platform. The electronic platform is hosted by Qmags, which also hosts a number of other IEEE magazines including Power Electronics and Electrification. PES is also exploring opportunities to translate the P&E magazine into Chinese and Spanish to better serve our international members.

Lastly, if you plan to attend the 2015 General Meeting in Denver, please consider attending the PES Publications Informational Session for Authors and Reviewers of IEEE PES journals. All of the editor-in-chiefs will be in attendance to answer your questions. Please check the program for the date and times.
