Their key point of success included HPCP from 2006 through to 2014 & 2015, strong team and close collaboration for planning and execution, successful R-10 Chapter Chairs Meeting in 2015 and their readiness of information with photos to reflect the outcome of activities.

Membership Growth

In 2016 membership in this Region has been increasing while the growth for some of the chapters has been substantial. These include Beijing Chapter with more than 25% growth as well as Lahore and Bangladesh Chapter with 310% and 94% growth respectively.

Chapter Chair Training

Chapter Chair training in R10 was conducted in Melbourne, Australia on 28th November. A total of 36 delegates attended the meeting – 22 PES chapters were represented. During this meeting the new volunteers went through a training to prepare them for the coming year to ensure they are familiar with the PES processes and also are set up for success in 2017 in their respective chapters. During this meeting in addition to the regular Chapter related training, matters relating to the region was discussed including the status of Scholarship Plus initiative.

Scholarship Plus

The success story in relation with Scholarship Plus initiative in R10 relates mainly to India, where this initiative is going through its second year of implementation. The program which started in 2015 was implemented for the 2016 academic year after the Selection Committee decided on the winners. Two scholarships given; one to applicants from all India Colleges and one to applicants from Karnataka colleges. Two students were awarded with the scholarship.

Contributions were received from the local donors and an equal amount (US$ 5000) was received from IEEE foundation. In 2016, 27 fresh applications were received and the plan is to give the scholarship to 4 new candidates.Momentum is picking up in India and the projection is that both student participation and corporate contribution will increase in 2017. Scholarship Plus in India benefited from a well-designed website.

The plan for Scholarship Plus in other countries in R10 is to use the success story in India and implement in countries where this initiative is most needed and the industry also is facing a shortage Power Engineers. This plan is more executable as Nagaraja Ramappa who championed the initiative in India has now been appointed as the Scholarship Plus Chair for Region 10.
